Home row is the rest position. On a QWERTY board the left hand sits on A, S, D, and F, and the right hand on J, K, L, and semicolon. F and J have a bump you can find without looking. The drill stays inside those keys: aaa, jjj, then short words such as sad, flask, flags, and hall. You will not see Q or a comma here. That limit is the lesson.
Pinkies take A and semicolon, ring fingers S and L, middle fingers D and K, index fingers F and J. A thumb takes space. The usual miss is parking the index fingers on G and H and calling that home. Those keys are reaches. If “flask” makes you look down, replant on the bumps and type it slower.
